Transactional Data

Definition: Transaction means “as work occurs.” Transactional data are elements created that describe the work as it happens. For example, transactional attendance data would be the detailed data about student attendances, absences, tardies, excused absences, etc. on a period-by-period basis within a student information system’s database.

What This Means: The detail represented by transactional data allows us to analyze relationships, trends, changes, and other facts that higher level statistics mask. Transactions also provide the ability to freeze a point in time for counting events.
